The One Belt, One Road plan recently unveiled by the People’s Republic of China is a new economic enterprise rooted in Chinese foreign policy but it has roots that stretch back to the period under discussion.  Cambodia, once part of the ancient Maritime Silk Road route, looks set to become one of the countries involved in China’s ambitious attempt to revive the ancient network of trade that once connected Europe with Asia. How would you characterize China’s relationship with the Khmer empire.
